April 27th, Lovely day ONE!

Arrived at Maui last night. Got to the Sheraton Maui on Ka'anapoli Beach about 8:30, had a nice dinner at the Black Rock Restaurant at the  hotel and went to our room.
Below is the view from our room - not bad huh? If only you could HEAR it!

Had the breakfast buffet at the hotel this morning (complete with an omelet bar - YUM!)  Then off to snorkeling at Black Rock - right in front of the hotel.  Saw LOTS of colorful fish, sea urchins and coral.  We went pretty far around the rock.
Who knew snorkeling was so romantic!!!
Then off to the poolside to read.
After awhile we got up and walked to Whalers Village, about a 1/2 a mile down the beach.
Back to the hotel to watch the sunset cliff dive off of Black Rock and had dinner at the Black Rock Restaurant at the hotel again.

April 28 - Another wonderful day in Maui!

Went to a local hangout for breakfast this morning. the Gazebo in Napili, known for their macadamia nut pancakes. they were more than worth the 20 minute wait to get in! Afterwards, we walked along the tide pools at the beach below.
We drove up north a few miles to Honolua Bay, then turned back South and drove all the way down to Wailea, about an hours drive, then back up to about 10 miles south of our hotel to mile marker 14 and went snorkeling.  This was at a beach just off the main road, no coves, we just swam straight out.  We went pretty far out and saw a lot of fish.  There are a lot of different kinds of trigger fish and colors of sea urchins.  We also saw a several sea cucumbers and a LOT of things I didn't recognize.
Back to the hotel to relax on the balcony, enjoy the view and play some cards.
Had a late dinner at Teppan-Yaki Dan's at the hotel.  We had a table to ourselves with our own personal Chef.  Just another romantic day in paradise!

April 29th - It keeps getting better

Had breakfast at the Buffet again.  Relaxed by the pool to read.  Finally got up and went snorkeling at Black Rock.  We went out around the rock again and ended up coming in at a little isolated beach.  When we were coming back in we saw 2 turtles! YEAH!!! They were eating the seaweed and hanging out about 15 feet from the shore, seemingly oblivious to the snorkelers surrounding them taking pictures.
Went to the Old Lahaina Luau this evening.  It was great! Beautiful views, GREAT show, all you can eat and drink (I had plenty of virgin Lava Flows - my new favorite!)

Just arrived at a private cove we snorkeled to

We finally saw some turtles!!!!!! YEAH!!!

April 30th - Another WONDERFUL day!

Drove about 15 minutes north to Kapalua this morning to the Plantation House Restaurant (known for their Eggs Benedict) for breakfast.  It sits on a hill in the Plantation House Golf Course.  Our table had a view of several holes, the ocean, and the mountains.  Neil had Eggs Benedict and I had Crab Eggs Benedict - both were VERY yummy!!!

Drove North and walked down to Nakalele Blowhole - though it wasn't "blowing" at the time, we could hear the water below and it was still worth the hike down.

Continued on our journey north and ended up on a narrow, one lane, windy stretch that lead to the tiny town of Kahakuloa where we got some banana bread (at a place where apparently people drive there ONLY for the banana bread) then turned around and started back.

We stopped at the Olivine Pools, another hike down.  There were several pools of various depths that we could see the fish swimming around.

When we got back to the hotel we relaxed by the pool again to read, then drove north back up to Kahana for sushi dinner at Sansei's (highly recommended by several people) YUMMY!!!!

May 1st - the last, but most WONDERFUL day!

The day started out like any other here at Ka'anapali - We had a buffet breakfast at the hotel then went snorkeling around Black Rock. Started out like the least memorable of our snorkel trips, then the water cleared a bit and we saw several turtles! We were out around the rock so we had them to ourselves. We saw 3 or 4, each one at a time. They are FAST when they want to be, but one hung out for awhile for us to watch.
Then back to the room to pack up a little. I went down to the spa to get a prenatal massage - it was outside where I could hear the waves crashing. Neil stayed at the room and read on the balcony.

Then we got ourselves all "prettied up" and headed south to Po'olenalena Beach (for exact spot, see map in next post)
